Barely a week after his album hit the stores; Darey Art Alade’s second album has become yet another prey to piracy.

The NCC on Thursday April 2, 2009 caught Akina Music International Limited formerly Benrit Outlook Ltd in the process of illegal mass production of suspected pirated products. The optical discs plant which will soon be charged and prosecuted for piracy of copyright protected works had also been raided by the Commission about four years ago and is currently being prosecuted at a Federal High Court in Lagos for piracy of musical works and cinematograph films.

‘If not for the timely intervention of the Nigerian Copyright Commission (NCC), I am not sure what story we’d be telling today. A lot of our intellectual work, time, money and energy have been put into the release of that album, and to think someone was trying to pirate it breaks my heart’ Darey says

Un.DAREY.ted. which has been on a test run since 2008, and has over time gained momentum as one of Nigeria’s most anticipated albums was finally released on March 31, 2009 under Soul Muzik after a string of videos for ‘With this woman’, ‘Carry dey go’, ‘Not the girl’ and ‘More’.

‘I hope and pray that this criminal act will not be allowed to continue to happen, I mean, people can’t continue to feed off our sweat and toil, its not fair’ Darey who was at Dubai as at the time the news broke disclosed.

DAREY DROPS ALBUM MARCH 31st; PLANS ‘the new project fame’

unveil his highly anticipated sophomore!! The album, titled un.DAREY.ted, already boasts of blaizing hot singles like Not The Girl’, Carry Dey Go, With This Woman and More.

from what I’ve gathered, there’s more in the offering from his 12 tracker LP.

Tracks to look forward to include Style na Style (featuring 9ice), Let You Know (featuring Pheel), Se Ti Gbo (featuring Naeto C), No Stars and Go a.k.a She Said’.

The album will also be released online and will be available on the likes of iTunes, Amazon and other online stores, for fans outside Nigeria and those who are not immediately able to get the hard copy.

Meanwhile, as part of efforts to give back to a society that has nurtured and supported him, Darey is planning to give back, through a TV show called ‘The Most un.DAREY.ted show.’ Shot in several Lagos neighbourhoods where Darey either grew up or attended school, the show will lend an inspirational hand to young people with big dreams and give them an opportunity to build a career for themselves in whatever chosen field they desire. ‘It’s something I’m passionate about- helping younger talents find their voices,’ he says.

The show is expected to begin airing exclusively on Silverbird Television, before the full album drops.

An exclusive high-profile gig is being packaged to celebrate Dare Art Alade’s birthday. We gather that the singer/songwriter’s valentine eve birthday party is scheduled to hold at Mamundos, VI from 11pm.

 

He is expected to fly in from his base in Abuja to join his close friends, associates, family members and colleagues for the gig that’ll roll into the early hours of February 14 – St. Valentine;s day

He’s taken the risk of putting together an album with identifiable character. Away from the era of experimental materials, he’s created a full soul/R&B LP that’ll define his direction and establish him as a deserving apostle of the genre romanticized by lovers, thinkers and romantics all over the world.

And it’s beginning to appear the risk will bear quick dividends. Although the full album is still scheduled for a February 2009 release, the string of singles that have come forth, have caused us all to shower the young man with all the adulations we can muster. With ‘not the girl’ especially, Darey has won an overwhelming community of new converts. If you liked his voice and good looks, but didn’t exactly like the kind of songs he put out on his first album, then ‘not the girl’ is the song that’ll make you scream: ‘‘yeah, he found the right kind of song for his voice!’’

Dare teamed up with revered Nigerian producers Cobhams Asuquo and TY Mix to cook unDAREYted , his second solo album that’ll contain not the girl, more, with this woman, no stars and others. But that’s story for another day.

As a first in a series of upcoming tours, he’ll this week head to Southern Africa to join Jamaican-American singer Sean Kingston and Michigan-born soul star Dwele for a multi-city tour that’ll cover Zambia, Jo’Burg, Namibia, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Tanzania.

Sources close to the singer say he is the only African act on the bill; and that the deal was brokered by his US-based promoter.

‘‘Yes we’re touring with Sean Kingston this December, but that’s as much as I can say now’’, the singer told reporters in Abuja early this week.

The tour is being put together by Worldwide perspectives.

According to the singer’s manager Solomon Shonaiya, there are more tours and concerts in the offing, ‘because the dream is to build a global brand. The first Soul/R&B star from Africa to take the whole world hostage – that’s where were aiming at’.

Darey’s new album unDAREYted, the much-awaited follow up to his 2006 experimental debut From me 2 u, will hit shelves from February 2009.
