MOBO 2008: not all that Booey!!!

There was a lot of hype surrounding this year’s MOBO Awards but a lot of people left disappointed because “nobody” decided to turn up.!browsing through comments in several blogs about the 2008 MOBO Awards, many are of the opinion that it was, overall, a not-too-satisfactory MOBO.

Rev Run and Mel B did a decent job of hosting the ceremony. They had good chemistry but what’s up with the plug ins? Mel wants us to buy her fitness DVDs..okay okay, can you please go on with the show?

Best African Act – 9ice

9ice – Grammy here i come!!

I’m wondering what was going through his head while smiling for the camera. MOBO..check!! MAMA here i come..even the Grammy will never see me coming!!! Did D’Banj, PSquare, Faze and Asa think they stood a better chance? 9ice’s got huge fans in the UK  stemming from his performance at the Mandela Concert held in London 3 months ago. so I’m not surprised the votes went to his favor but..what about Asa? she’s got UK on lock; or doesn’t she? I confidently placed all my bets on Asa, anyway sha votes are votes,right? 9ice’s award was presented by Olympic and world champion athlete, Christine Ohuruogu.

Her performance with John legend was…mmmmmmwah!!! she also bagged the “Best Song” Award for courtesy of her smash hit, American Boy. Estelle was in the middle of  a US tour but still took out time to honor the event.

Best Hip Hop – Lil Wayne

although Lil’ Wayne couldn’t make it to the event, Asian R&B star Jay Sean collected the award on his behalf. Jay Sean recently got signed on to Baby’s/Lil Wayne’s label Cash Money Records -another UK based act hijacked by Black America. power to the people!!!

*Others who failed to collect their awards – Dizzee Rascal (Best UK Male), Chris Brown (Best R&B/Soul) and Movado (Best Reggae)…. they all got booed for their absence!! yes!Lil’ Wayne got booed too!!

Best Album – Leona Lewis
Leona? didn’t Lil’ Wayne’s name appear in that category? Anyway votes are votes!!! she also bagged the award for Best Video (Bleeding Love). Leona wins the peoples award for the loudest boo at the event!!! word is that Leona had a couple of hustles sin the US she had to lock down! obviously her UK fans weren’t pleased bout her absence. X Factor’s Sinitta attempted to make an acceptance speech on her behalf but the boos where just overbearing!!!

oh yeah!! Tim got booed too…but it was a “good” boo!!it’s like saying there was a fight at the Jerry Springer show – it’s all part of his act!! All Tim Westwood fans know what I’m talking about, right?

Lifetime Achievement Award – Motown
Legendary record label Motown Records received the Lifetime Achievement Award. Former member of The Supremes, Mary Wilson, picked up the Lifetime Achievement award on behalf of Motown records.

Now I know why Diana Ross was chosen to sing lead in the Supremes. Former Supreme Mary Wilson closed the show. according to reports her performance was……lets just say she’s a good backup singer!!!
