Ras Kimono bounces back

The Rub-A-Dub Master and reggae veteran, Ras Kimono, who relocated to the United States of America (USA) and faded off the Nigeria music radar, is back. He revealed that he had to take a long sabbatical from the music scene in order to re-discover himself musically and spend more time with his kids.

When reminded that he chose to return at a time the majority music buying youth are influenced by hip-hop music, Ras Kimono made it known that he does not foresee any kind of competition as there are still reggae disciples in Nigeria.

“I’m not in competition with the new generation of musicians playing Hip-Hop because none of them is playing Reggae music. I believe that there more than one million Nigerians who are still in love with Reggae music in our society and I know these people will definitely follow Ras Kimono,” he said.

He stated that his confidence in breaking into the scene was stronger now that it was when he first began due to the fact that he stepped into the scene with his style of Reggae music at a time when highlife and pop was the order of the day.

“The first time I hit the music there big time musicians like Sonny Okosuns, Oliver, De-Coque, King Sunny Ade, Onyeka Onwenu, Christy Essien-Igbokwe and lots of other musicians, but I still found my bearing in the market. So I will still bet here doing my thing while the younger ones do their thing too,” said the confident Kimono who is currently sourcing for music marketing and distribution outlets in Nigeria.

His yet untitled 6th album, which took the reggae icon about ten months to record, is expected to be released in the third quarter of this year.
