Nigerians Artistes should dominate the KORA Awards – Efe Omorogbe

An interactive session with artistes, managers and record label executives was held recently at Sweet Sensation, at GRA Ikeja.  Mr. Omorogbe, whose outfit, Now Muzik, serves as the Nigerian artiste liaison office for KORA, stated that he was surprised at the lackadaisical or last minute approach of Nigerian Artistes towards submission of entry materials for the Awards. He also stated that his company had in the past canvassed for entries to ensure that Nigeria was well represented at past Awards.

Mr.  Omorogbe seized the opportunity to highlight the importance of the award to Nigerians and Africa.  “Kora creates a platform for your work to be seen by over 600 million people across the world. I remember that Femi Kuti got a Grammy nomination right after his Kora recognition… In 2005 Tuface Idibia had his first major exposure on an international platform via his performance at the Awards and the rest is history,” he says.

Also speaking at the event was Kora representative, Mr. Rotimi Awelewa who stated that a large percentage of Nigerians had their entries returned in the past because entries were not submitted properly. He encouraged artiste to ensure that they submit their entries on time through the Zmirage – the Nigerian office for the Awards – in order to maximize their chances of getting through their screening sessions for the awards.

Artistes present at the session included Kween, Nig.g.a Raw, Mr. Kool, and a host of artiste managers. Entries for the Kora All Africa Music Awards closes on April 15,2008.
